WHAT IS MULTI-CONGREGATIONAL?As 2 Pillars Church (2PC) prepares to plant another church in Lincoln, we intend to employ a multi-congregational approach to planting. In a nutshell, 2 Pillars will become: One church with multiple neighborhood congregations.
The near-term result will be: 2 Pillars Church-Near South and 2 Pillars Church-Northeast.
Over time, we envision additional neighborhood congregations, a part of “2 Pillars Church” in various different parts of our city as well.
WHY MULTI-CONGREGATIONAL?First, we are a church-planting church. From day one we set out to be a church that plants churches, that plant more churches and so on. We believe that church planting is one of the most effective evangelical methods.
Second, our vision is to “reach the unreached for Christ and transform the city of Lincoln by loving God and loving people.” That’s way bigger than one congregation and the way we see it happening is to impact local neighborhoods for the glory of God. In other words, we want to create “gospel density” in our city—saturating the city with the gospel. This requires us, as believers and as the church, to embed and invest in specific parts of the city, taking spiritual responsibility for these parts of the city, and cultivating a faithful presence.
Third, a multi-congregational model allows us to combine the very best of church planting, the autonomous church, and multi-site. Each of these elements, in and of themselves, have their respective strengths and weaknesses. However, when combined, the weaknesses are diminished and the strengths exploited.
